April 16 - Congratulations On Finishing NT

April 16, 2024

Congratulations on finishing the New Testament Reading! We will begin the Old Testament next week. In the mean time, I want to ask you to text me at 205-541-6404 to let me know if you are watching the video, listening to the podcast, or just reading the text we are covering each day. This will help me know how to proceed with our daily recordings. If you have fallen behind, use the next week to catch up. I will post some videos in the mean time sharing some of my favoring verses, and sharing a few minutes of commentary on those verses. I look forward to reading through the Old Testament with you.

Day 16 - Read Genesis 27-28

May 9, 2024 • Genesis 27—28

Isaac sent Esau to hunt and to cook him food so he could bless Esau. Rebekah heard Isaac and prepared Jacob to deceive his father and take his brother’s blessing. Jacob did as he was told and received the blessing from Isaac. Rebekah influenced Isaac to forbid Jacob to marry a Canaanite woman. Isaac sent Jacob to search for a wife among Rebekah’s kinsmen. Jacob journeyed to Haran as he was directed by his father. He stopped to rest in Luz. The Lord spoke to Jacob in a dream and told him He would honor his promise to bless Abraham’s descendants and make his name great. Jacob committed to follow God if He brought him back safely to his father’s land. He named the place Bethel. He referred to this place as God’s house.

Day 15 - Read Genesis 25-26

May 8, 2024 • Genesis 25—26

Abraham gave all he had to Isaac. Isaac and Rebekah had twins named Esau and Jacob. Isaac loved Esau and Rebekah loved Jacob. Esau was a hunter and Jacob was a quiet man who dwelled in tents. Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for food. He did not value his birthright which included the blessings of his father. Isaac settled in Gerar. He told the people that Rebekah was his sister for fear they would kill him and take her. She was a beautiful woman. Abimelech, king of the Philistines, discovered Rebekah was Isaac’s wife. He confronted Isaac, then issued a warning that they were not to be harmed. God blessed Isaac and made him a powerful man. Abimelech sent him away and later made a covenant with him to insure peace between them.

Day 14 - Read Genesis 24

May 7, 2024 • Genesis 24

Abraham wanted Isaac to have a wife from his people. He charged his servant to bring a bride for Isaac from his kinsmen. Isaac was not to leave the land God gave Abraham to find a wife. His servant went to the city of Nahor and waited by the well for women to draw water in the evening. The servant prayed for God to give him success in his search. Before he finished praying, Rebekah went to the well. He asked her for a drink. She responded as requested and provided water to his camels. She took him to her home, then he asked permission to take her to Isaac, and the family agreed. The servant and his men stayed the night before returning with Rebekah. Isaac took Rebekah as his wife and was comforted.
