Day 267 - Read Psalm 86-88

January 15, 2025 • Psalms 86—88

Psalm eighty-six is a prayer of David. He asked God to show grace toward him. He asked God for a sign to those who hate him so they would be put to shame. Psalm eighty-seven is a song praising Zion, the city of God. God’s hand was on Zion, and the people who were associated with it were blessed. Chapter eighty-eight as a song to God asking Him to hear what the psalmist prayed day and night. He described his situation as being in a pit, close to death and in need of God’s help. The psalmist was overwhelmed.

Day 266 - Read Psalm 82-85

Asaph pleaded with God in chapters eighty-two and eighty-three to rescue the weak and needy. He referred to rulers as gods by appointment of their positions. When they stand to face God at the judgement, they will die and fall like any other man because of wickedness. Chapter eighty-four is a song concerning the house of the Lord. The psalmist wrote, “For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere” (Vs. 10). The psalmist asked God in chapter eighty-five to restore His people. The Lord will provide and lead His people in righteousness.

Day 265 - Read Psalm 79-81

Asaph asked God to release His wrath on the enemies of Israel. He asked Him to forgive His people and deliver them, and they would give Him thanks and praise. Likewise, chapter eighty was written during a time of struggle for the people of Israel. Asaph asked God to restore His people. Chapter eighty-one is a song calling for the worship of God. He saved His people and they turned from Him. God commanded His people to worship Him alone, but they chose to turn to other gods, and He admonished them. If God’s people would serve Him alone, He would feed them with the finest.

Day 264 - Read Psalm 78

January 12, 2025 • Psalm 78

Asaph wrote of the glorious deeds of the Lord. He reminded the reader that God established a history and a law in Israel that was to be shared with the generations to come so that they would hope in Him and keep His commandments. Asaph gave an overview of God’s provisions and protection over his people. He explained how Israel turned from God time and time again, but God continued to bring them back to Him. God led them and provided them a king in David, who shepherded them according to the will of God.
