Job 34—35

Elihu exclaimed God’s justice and power over man. He argued God knew every act of man. God’s justice is right and should not be challenged by man because he is inferior to God. Elihu said Job spoke like wicked men who rebel against God. Elihu refuted Job because Job appeared to argue his case as more important than God’s.

Day 242 - Read Job 40-42

December 21, 2024 • Job 40—42

The Lord questioned Job and Job showed respect to the Lord. The Lord spoke to Job through the windstorm. The Lord describes beasts that no man could tame or conquer. The Lord explained that man was unable to tame this beast, much less conquer or tame the God who created the beast. Job repented to God and acknowledged his own lack of knowledge before Him. The Lord rebuked Job’s friends and commanded them to go to Job and offer sacrifices. The Lord accepted Job’s prayer and his friends’ sacrifices. God gave Job twice as much as he had before. Job had seven sons and three daughters. Job lived to be 140 years old before he died.

Day 241 - Read Job 38-39

December 20, 2024 • Job 38—39

The Lord confronted Job out of a windstorm. He reminded Job that he (meaning Job) did not create the heavens, the earth, or anything in it, nor did he control nature. The Lord created all things and controls all things. He reminded Job that he did not speak with the same level of knowledge as the Lord, and He had knowledge beyond Job because the Lord was the creator who was over all things.

Day 240 - Read Job 36-37

December 19, 2024 • Job 36—37

Elihu explained that God’s correction should lead people to repent. If the one who God punished will repent, he will receive blessings from God, prosper, and be content. Those who refuse to recognize God’s greatness and repent will harbor resentment and perish. Elihu urged Job to acknowledge God’s greatness and acknowledge his guilt.
