700 years before the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, Isaiah prophesied about His coming, giving the Messiah four distinct names: Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. In this Advent series, we will look at one name each week, and this first week we see Christ as Wonderful Counselor. He is Wonderful in His being, power, and holiness, and He himself is a wonder. He is the Counselor in His knowledge, wisdom, and execution of His decrees of providence. He consults with no one, takes counsel with no one, and needs nothing outside of Himself. Why should we know this about Jesus? Because He came to rescue His people and to give His glorious wonder to us.
