Matthew 26:26-30 describes the institution of the Lord's Supper, a significant event in the Christian faith. In this passage, Jesus takes bread, blesses it, breaks it, and gives it to His disciples, saying, "Take, eat; this is My body." He then takes a cup, gives thanks, and tells them to drink from it, stating, "For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins." This moment is crucial as it establishes the practice of communion, symbolizing Jesus' sacrifice and the new covenant between God and humanity. The act of sharing bread and wine represents the body and blood of Christ, reminding believers of His sacrifice and their redemption. The passage concludes with Jesus singing a hymn with His disciples before they go out to the Mount of Olives, emphasising the communal aspect of this sacrament and the importance of worship in remembrance of Him.
