The underlying impetus behind the Great Commission is not necessarily for the salvation of the lost , as important as that is. Rather, we do missions and evangelism for the sake of God's holy name (to bring glory to Him)! God desires for Himself the glory of the nations and the praises of the peoples of the earth. And when we begin to understand that, perhaps we’ll take more seriously, and be more passionate about, our role and responsibility in carrying out the Great Commission. In the Latin words of the Five Solas of the Reformation, everything that we do as Christians, to include missions and evangelism, should be Soli Deo Gloria —for the glory of God alone!
