The True Me

Romans 6:1-14

He is Risen! He is Risen indeed! That is the refrain of Easter, as it should be. So, what does that mean for us, today? Often we think about the resurrection as a wonderful truth for the future but in Romans 6, God's Word teaches us that the resurrection (real life, new life, and powerful life) of Jesus is something that is an animating force for us right now, especially in our battle with sin. But, God is not just trying to make us good boy and girls. God is trying to make us like Christ and that is why growing out of sin is not an end to itself, but rather it is a journey toward becoming more like Jesus. How do we appropriate the gospel in this way? Identity. We are to remember and live into our identities and union with Christ, which is so powerful that God has taken Jesus' perfect and final death, burial, resurrection and ruling life and credited that to us. So, who are you? Hint: any answer outside of Jesus is false. You and I are in Christ. Period. And that is power to grow and delight in God, today.
