How to Wait on God (Part 3)

Asking & Trusting

August 1, 2019 • Rebecca Stevenson

We're honored to host gifted teacher and author, Rebecca Stevenson, for Part 3 of a 4-part series on the subject of "How to Wait on God" after her recent book published on the same subject, "WAIT: Thoughts and Practice in Waiting on God." We live in a broken world, and as such, we will each experience times of lack, want, or need; times of frustration and dissatisfaction, and even pain. In these periods of our lives, we need to learn to wait on the Lord. Welcome to Bespoken Summer Break! Throughout the summer, while Jay and Ryan are on hiatus, you'll hear from several different leaders/teachers from CHBC on various topics. Have questions or ideas for a future episode? Email them to bespoken@biblechurch.org. Bespoken is a weekly podcast by Lead Pastor, Jay Thomas, and Community & Care Minister, Ryan McKee. Each week we cover spiritual topics and issues that will help you grow closer to God and deeper in Christ.

Ethnicity, Experience, and Empathy: Jay’s Story • August 7, 2020 • Jay Thomas

Recently, overt racial tension has spurred conversations about racism in our society and the church. There are a variety of opinions on the subject, so we are working to STOP & LISTEN to others in our church family who have a story to tell. In this episode, Pastor Jay shares his story, explains how it animates his perspective on matters of ethnic unity and reconciliation, and charts a biblical way forward on these issues. Jay explains the connections between his ethnicities and his experience of the various cultural environments in which he’s lived. He also describes how these experiences have softened his heart to the stories of his brothers and sisters and neighbors. He encourages us to lead with love as we imagine “what ought to be” regarding ethnic unity. No matter where you are on this topic, we invite you to STOP & LISTEN. Being White and Vulnerable • July 31, 2020

The last several weeks of racial tension in our country have opened up new conversations and dialogue around racism in our society and the church. There's a wide array of opinions on the subject, so we will be taking the next several weeks to STOP AND LISTEN to others in our church family who have a story to tell. In this episode, Pastors Jay and Ryan interview Daniel Davis - a young and married CHBC member - as he opens up about his emotional and spiritual journey on racial inequality after the death of George Floyd. Dan's come alive in the last year to the racial tensions and disunity in our country, but also has found himself wrestling with being vulnerable as a white man as he enters into dialogue around this topic. No matter what side you find yourself on around this debate, we are inviting you to STOP & LISTEN. Have questions or ideas for a future episode? Email them to bespoken@biblechurch.org. Stop & Listen (Part 4)

Never Gave It a Thought • July 24, 2020 • Rick Hove

The last several weeks of racial tension in our country have opened up new conversations and dialogue around racism in our society and the church. There's a wide array of opinions on the subject, so we will be taking the next several weeks to STOP AND LISTEN to others in our church family who have a story to tell. In this episode, Pastors Jay and Ryan interview Rick Hove - Executive Director of Faculty Commons at Cru and an elder at CHBC - as he opens up about his emotional and spiritual journey on racial inequality. Rick's position has evolved from someone who never gave racism a thought to a person who is now empathetic to and passionately against racial inequality around him and his African American friends and colleagues. No matter what side you find yourself on around this debate, we are inviting you to STOP & LISTEN. Have questions or ideas for a future episode? Email them to bespoken@biblechurch.org.
