Elijah Confronts Evil Ahab • September 25, 2020 • Josh Cooley
This week’s Kids Ministry lesson is entitled “Elijah Confronts Evil Ahab” (1 Kings 18). It’s a fascinating story of an unforgettable mountaintop contest between the God of Israel and Baal to see who was real. We’ll have a lot of fun discussing how there is only one true God of heaven and earth who deserves all our worship, and how we can be his children through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - What does this true story tell you about God and what’s important to HIM? - Talk about the first 4 of God’s 10 Commandments found in Exodus 20. - What do we have to do so that God will listen to us? - How does God show his love for us? - Talk about what it means to trust in the Lord Jesus as your Savior. KEY PASSAGE “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

The Praises of God's People • September 20, 2020 • Olivia Vines
I hope you and your family are having a great week. We have another new teacher for this week’s “Kids Online” video, Olivia Vines. Woo-hoo! Olivia is the 2020-21 Kids Ministry intern, a senior at UNC, and the kindergarten team intern at Voyager Academy in Durham. She was also a large group teacher and small group leader in Kids Ministry before COVID-19 began. This week’s lesson is entitled “The Praises of God’s People.” It covers the Book of Psalms, focusing on three different psalms – 1, 100, and 110. Olivia does a great job explaining the beautiful themes found throughout the entire Psalter and the specific messages in each of these three psalms. In her lesson, she discusses: - Psalm 1: Choosing the path of righteousness instead of wickedness. - Psalm 100: Giving thanks to God because of his faithfulness. - Psalm 110: Rejoicing in the promise of a messianic priest-king, which was fulfilled in Christ. I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch the video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family!

Job • September 13, 2020 • Aliza Nedimeyer
I hope you and your family are having a great week. We have a new teacher for this week’s “Kids Online” video, Aliza Nedimyer. Woo-hoo! Aliza is a doctoral student at UNC, but she has been a teacher and small group leader for several years in Kids Ministry. This week’s lesson is simply entitled “Job.” It ambitiously covers the whole book of Job, and Aliza does a great job tackling the important truths and deep mysteries found within this book and bringing them to a child’s level. Some of the topics she addresses are: - Why did God allow all those terrible things to happen to Job? - Why does God allow bad things to happen to us? - How should we respond when trials and difficulties happen in our lives? - And what’s up with Satan approaching God to talk about Job in the first place?! These are important things not only for adults to understand, but kids, too, since we live in a broken world filled with hardships. I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch the video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family!
