Elijah Confronts Evil Ahab

September 25, 2020 • Josh Cooley • 1 Kings 18

This week’s Kids Ministry lesson is entitled “Elijah Confronts Evil Ahab” (1 Kings 18). It’s a fascinating story of an unforgettable mountaintop contest between the God of Israel and Baal to see who was real. We’ll have a lot of fun discussing how there is only one true God of heaven and earth who deserves all our worship, and how we can be his children through faith in his Son, Jesus Christ! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - What does this true story tell you about God and what’s important to HIM?     - Talk about the first 4 of God’s 10 Commandments found in Exodus 20.   - What do we have to do so that God will listen to us? - How does God show his love for us? - Talk about what it means to trust in the Lord Jesus as your Savior. KEY PASSAGE “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Hezekiah, Judah’s Faithful King • October 30, 2020 • Meg Howes

This week’s teacher is Meg Howes, and she’s teaching a lesson entitled, “Hezekiah, Judah’s Faithful King” (2 Kings 18–19).    Among the many wicked kings in Israel and Judah, Hezekiah was one of the few bright spots. But he didn’t have an easy life. During his time, the powerful Assyrian Empire threatened to overwhelm Judah, just like it had done to the northern kingdom of Israel. Sennacherib, Assyria’s arrogant king, mocked Hezekiah and God himself. Hezekiah’s army was vastly outnumbered. All he could do was cry out to God for help. And God responded—in a miraculous way!   In this week’s video, Meg will help your child understand that the almighty God who helped Hezekiah in his greatest time of need is the same God who loves them and hears them today when they approach him in faith through his Son, Jesus Christ.   I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your child and watch the “Kids Online” family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family using the questions below! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT What do you do first when you are worried or afraid?  What did Hezekiah do when he needed help and protection? Who can we trust to help and protect us? How did God answer Jesus’ prayer for people to be saved?    Identify the greatest challenge your family is facing at this time. Write it on a sheet of paper. Lay the paper in front of you as you pray as a family for that situation. Pray as a family for other people you know who are facing difficult situations.  KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

They make not only a great team as husband and wife, but also a great teaching tandem! This week’s lesson is from the glorious “Suffering Servant” chapter in Isaiah. Praise God that “the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all”! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family!
