Solomon Thought About Life

September 4, 2020 • Josh Cooley • Ecclesiastes 1:1-11

This week’s Kids Ministry lesson is entitled “Solomon Thought About Life” (Ecclesiastes 1:1-11). Ecclesiastes is one of the most unique, challenging books of the Bible for adults, let alone kids! It forces us to grapple with weighty questions such as “Why did God create me?”, “What’s the meaning of life?” and “What’s my purpose for being here?” This week, we’ll try to bring this appropriately to a kids’ level and help them understand that God created them for a specific purpose (to worship and obey him) and that only through Jesus can we truly find meaning in life.

God Called Isaiah • October 16, 2020 • Olivia Vines

This week’s lesson is entitled “God Called Isaiah” (Isaiah 6), and our teacher is Olivia Vines, our very talented Kids Ministry intern. This is a powerful story of Isaiah’s amazing vision of a holy God in his temple and how Isaiah felt completely undone before the Lord in his sinful state. Yet God mercifully provided atonement for Isaiah as he commissioned him to be his messenger to unfaithful Judah. There’s so much spiritual richness and gospel truth that Olivia will unpack for your kids in fun, memorable ways! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - What did you imagine the Seraphim looked like? - Why did Isaiah feel so afraid standing before God? - What do you understand about God from this story?  - How does this story remind us of Jesus?   - How does Jesus take away our sin? Say the Key Passage together with the motions you learned today. KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

Elisha & Naaman • October 9, 2020 • Josh Cooley

This week’s lesson is entitled “Elisha and Naaman” (2 Kings 5). I’m so glad our curriculum includes this story. Even though it’s relatively brief, there’s so much spiritual richness to it. We’ll learn how Naaman, a proud idol-worshipper, was seeking physical healing, and while God graciously provided that, he also gave Naaman what he needed most: spiritual healing from his sins. We’ll also discuss how Naaman was a Syrian, outside of covenant Israel, and how that was a beautiful example of God’s plan to redeem the nations, not just one ethnicity or people group. What powerful truths for us today! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - Why do you think the servant girl told Naaman about Elisha? - Why was Naaman upset about Elisha’s instruction? - What was Naaman’s biggest problem? - How can we be made well from our sin problem? - Talk about any questions you may have about what it means to trust in Jesus. - Pray together about someone you love who is sick or pray for an unbeliever you may know.  KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

Elijah Ran from Jezebel • October 2, 2020 • Pete Commander

We have a new teacher for this week’s “Kids Online” video, Pete Commander. Woo-hoo! Pete and his wife, Tammy, moved to the area from New Jersey fairly recently to be close to their grandkids. Pre-COVID, Pete was small group leader in Kids Ministry. He’s also a diehard Philly-area sports fan, but we’re not going to hold that against him. 😆   This week’s lesson is entitled “Elijah Ran From Jezebel” (1 Kings 19). The story picks up after Elijah's literal mountaintop experience, when God showed Israel with fire from heaven that he was the one true God, not Baal. Immediately thereafter, though, wicked Queen Jezebel threatened to kill Elijah. Feeling angry, scared and hopeless, he fled to a cave on Mount Horeb, where the Lord spoke to him, but not as you might expect. This is a wonderful lesson not only about how God spoke to Elijah thousands of years ago, but also about how God powerfully speaks to us today! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - Why do you think God revealed Himself in a whisper instead of the fire, wind or earthquake?  - What other ways has God revealed Himself to people?  - How can we know that God cares for us when we feel afraid or discouraged? - What Bible verse encourages you when you are afraid? - What Bible verse encourages you when people dislike you because you follow Jesus? KEY PASSAGE “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.” (Hebrews 1:1-2)
