The Praises of God's People

September 20, 2020 • Olivia Vines • The Book of Psalms

I hope you and your family are having a great week. We have another new teacher for this week’s “Kids Online” video, Olivia Vines. Woo-hoo! Olivia is the 2020-21 Kids Ministry intern, a senior at UNC, and the kindergarten team intern at Voyager Academy in Durham. She was also a large group teacher and small group leader in Kids Ministry before COVID-19 began. This week’s lesson is entitled “The Praises of God’s People.” It covers the Book of Psalms, focusing on three different psalms – 1, 100, and 110. Olivia does a great job explaining the beautiful themes found throughout the entire Psalter and the specific messages in each of these three psalms. In her lesson, she discusses: - Psalm 1: Choosing the path of righteousness instead of wickedness. - Psalm 100: Giving thanks to God because of his faithfulness. - Psalm 110: Rejoicing in the promise of a messianic priest-king, which was fulfilled in Christ. I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch the video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family!

Isaiah Preaches About the Messiah • October 23, 2020 • Bill & Emily Commander

This week’s lesson is entitled “Isaiah Preaches About the Messiah” (Isaiah 53). We have the special treat of seeing Bill & Emily Commander teach together onscreen. They make not only a great team as husband and wife, but also a great teaching tandem! This week’s lesson is from the glorious “Suffering Servant” chapter in Isaiah. Bill & Emily will help your kids learn wonderful truths about how, more than 700 years before Jesus’ incarnation, God gave this prophet a remarkable vision of the redemptive death and resurrection of the future Messiah. Praise God that “the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all”! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - Talk about situations where people make predictions (before sports games, about the weather, etc.). - Explain the difference between those and Isaiah’s prophecies. - What did you learn from Isaiah about the Messiah Try to name as many things as you can. - How are we like sheep?  - Why was the Messiah punished for other people’s sin? - Who is the Messiah?                                               - Why do you think people reject Jesus today? KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

God Called Isaiah • October 16, 2020 • Olivia Vines

This week’s lesson is entitled “God Called Isaiah” (Isaiah 6), and our teacher is Olivia Vines, our very talented Kids Ministry intern. This is a powerful story of Isaiah’s amazing vision of a holy God in his temple and how Isaiah felt completely undone before the Lord in his sinful state. Yet God mercifully provided atonement for Isaiah as he commissioned him to be his messenger to unfaithful Judah. There’s so much spiritual richness and gospel truth that Olivia will unpack for your kids in fun, memorable ways! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - What did you imagine the Seraphim looked like? - Why did Isaiah feel so afraid standing before God? - What do you understand about God from this story?  - How does this story remind us of Jesus?   - How does Jesus take away our sin? Say the Key Passage together with the motions you learned today. KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”

Elisha & Naaman • October 9, 2020 • Josh Cooley

This week’s lesson is entitled “Elisha and Naaman” (2 Kings 5). I’m so glad our curriculum includes this story. Even though it’s relatively brief, there’s so much spiritual richness to it. We’ll learn how Naaman, a proud idol-worshipper, was seeking physical healing, and while God graciously provided that, he also gave Naaman what he needed most: spiritual healing from his sins. We’ll also discuss how Naaman was a Syrian, outside of covenant Israel, and how that was a beautiful example of God’s plan to redeem the nations, not just one ethnicity or people group. What powerful truths for us today! I encourage you to find a moment this weekend to sit down with your kids and watch this week’s Kids Ministry family worship video. Don’t forget to take some time and talk about it together as a family! TALK ABOUT IT - Why do you think the servant girl told Naaman about Elisha? - Why was Naaman upset about Elisha’s instruction? - What was Naaman’s biggest problem? - How can we be made well from our sin problem? - Talk about any questions you may have about what it means to trust in Jesus. - Pray together about someone you love who is sick or pray for an unbeliever you may know.  KEY PASSAGE Hebrews 1:1-2 “Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world.”
