The Danger of Two-Group Thinking (7/2/20)

July 2, 2020 • Benham Brothers

* Our culture is plagued by two-group thinking. * Back in Christ’s day it was the same thing - Jew & Gentile. * But after Christ’s death we are supposed to be one-group thinkers. * Galatians 3:28 - “There is neither Jew nor Gentile, neither slave nor free, nor is there male and female, for you are all ONE in Christ Jesus.” * Satan loves two-group thinking. Why? * Because he cannot win when we’re ONE! * When we’re united as one two things are true: * We are the image of God (ex: marriage). * We are the church (the gates of hell will not prevail against it). * *** Peter was a two-group thinker, but God changed him into a one-group thinker. * Backstory: * The gospel was spreading as the apostles preached to the Jews. * Jews were not to associate with Gentiles - it was “us vs them.” * But then… * A gentile Roman centurion named Cornelius had a vision from God to send for and ask for Peter, the Jew, to come talk to him. * The next day Peter had a vision too - to kill and eat unclean animals. * Then God told Peter to go along with the men from Cornelius who showed up. * Vs 24-28 - Passion: “…Yet God has shown me that I should never view anyone as INFERIOR…” * ie - “God has shown me that I’m not supposed to view myself in one group and others in another. We can all be one in Christ.” * Cornelius explains his vision, then Peter responds: * Vs 34 - “NOW I know…” * Peter admitted his worldview had been off. * But he was still filled with the Spirit when he didn’t see it right. * He was done with that old way of thinking and was no longer going to let it guide his decisions moving forward. * Vs 35 - Pete was now a one-group thinker! * But the spirit of our age wants us stuck in two-group thinking. The Foundation of Worldview & Critical Theory: * Our thinking is fueled by our worldview. * A worldview is the lens through which you view the world. * The lens determines what you see. * This is why a worldview grounded in truth is so important. * EX: cataract surgery. * A worldview answers our most basic questions: Who are we? What is our problem? What is the solution to that problem? What is our primary moral duty? How should we live? * Two-Group thinking is based in the worldview of Critical Theory (CT). * One-Group thinking is based on the worldview of Biblical Christianity. * CT defined - “Modern critical theory views reality through the lens of power. Each individual is seen either as oppressed or as an oppressor, depending on their race, class, gender, sexuality, and a number of other categories. Oppressed groups are subjugated not by physical force or even overt discrimination, but through the exercise of hegemonic power—the ability of dominant groups to impose their norms, values, and expectations on society as a whole, relegating other groups to subordinate positions.” Comparing Christianity vs Critical Theory:   * WHO ARE WE: * Christianity - we are equal, made by God in His image  * Critical Theory - members of a dominant or oppressed group w/respect to a particular identity marker (race, sex, economic status, sexual preference, nationality, etc).  * Dominant (Oppressor) - male, white, straight, middle-upper class, Christian, American, Property Owners... * Marginalized (Oppressed) - female, color, gay, lower class, non religious, foreigner, Renters… * Intersectionality - you can be in both groups. A black female experiences more discrimination than a white female… * WHAT IS OUR PROBLEM:  * Christianity - we are all sinners in need of redemption (we all stand equally before God)  * Critical Theory - oppression from the dominant group (we are in one of two groups)  * WHAT IS THE SOLUTION:  * Christianity - salvation through Jesus and sanctification through the Holy Spirit  * Critical Theory - liberation from oppression  * HOW SHOULD WE LIVE:  * Christianity - love God and love people (see all people as equal under God)  * Critical Theory - dismantle structures of society that oppress people  * Fight for social justice (overthrow of oppression) * This is why “clash” is so important (Darwin and Marx talked a lot about it).  * STAGES OF EACH THEORY:  * Christianity - Creation, Fall, Redemption, Restoration (4 stages) * Critical Theory - Oppression, Activism, Liberation (3 stages - there is no creation - God is not in the picture)  * SOURCE OF TRUTH:  * Christianity - Revelation, logic, common sense, and experience  * Critical Theory - experience (those in the dominant group are “blinded by privilege” so they cannot know the truth because they haven’t “experienced” it)  * FOUR PILLARS OF CRITICAL THEORY: * Social Binary - this is the foundation of two-group thinking. * Oppression Through Ideology - the dominate group maintains power by imposing their ideology on everyone. * Lived Experience - oppressed groups have special knowledge privileged groups can’t have (“blinded by privilege”).  * Social Justice - the elimination of all forms of social oppression. * What’s the solution? * EV Hill knows! He used to tell of a time he received a death threat from the Black Panthers because they didn't like his preaching about that "white Jesus". This was his reply: * “I don't know anything about a white Christ - I know about Christ, a Savior named Jesus. I don't know what color He is. He was born in brown Asia, He fled to black Africa, and He was in heaven before the gospel got to white Europe, so I don't know what color He is. I do know one thing: if you bow at the altar with color on your mind, and get up with color on your mind, go back again - and keep going back until you no longer look at His color, but at His greatness and His power - His power to save!”

The French Revolution today (7/2/20)

"The further a society drifts from the truth the more it will hate those who speak it." George Orwell 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, DARWINISM / MARXISM / COMMUNISM / …CRITITCAL THEORY **History must be re-written and words re-defined French Revolution 1789 (American Constitution too): • Age of Enlightenment (authority of God replaced by autonomy of man) • An anti-God/anti-authority French mob stormed the Bastille (state prison) in 1789 and took it. • King Louis 16th didn’t respond – wanted to converse with the mob as an enlightened 27 year old leader • By 1792 the mob grew uncontrollably, under Robspiere (the leader of the Committee of Public Saftey) • He led an “anti-king” agenda and whipped the mob into a frenzy, and in 1792 they took the palace and beheaded the king. • Then Robspiere’s reign of terror took place • He gave a speech to the National Assembly, February 5, 1794, titled "The Terror Justified": "Lead ... the enemies of the people by terror ... Terror is nothing else than swift, severe, indomitable justice.” (BLM Protestor on CNN called Pres Trump the embodiment of white supremacist terrorism & Terrorist in Chief) They started by killing aristocrats and royalists (any supporter of the King), then moderates, then dissidents, then any who had doubts… The French Revolution initiated an intentional campaign to separate French society from its Judeo-Christian past and replace it with a civic religion of state worship. Not wanting a constitution that was "Done in the year of the Lord," as the U.S. Constitution was, the French made 1792 the new "Year One." They did not want a seven-day week with a Sabbath day rest, as this was derived from the Bible, so they devised a ten day "decade" week, and ten month year. "French Revolutionary Time" divided the day into 10 decimal hours, with each hour consisting of 100 decimal minutes, and each minute made up of 100 decimal seconds. Every measurement was to be divisible by ten, as ten was considered the number of man with ten fingers and ten toes. This was called "the metric system." A new, secular government proceeded to: • Forbid crosses as being offensive; • Religious monuments were destroyed; • Statues were torn down, including that of Good King Henry IV; • Public and private worship and education outlawed; • Priests and ministers, along with those who harbored them, were executed on sight • Christian graves were desecrated, • Churches were closed Robespierre put a prostitute in Notre Dame Cathedral, covered her with a sheet, and called her "the goddess of reason" to be worshiped. The fabrication of books of all kinds against Christianity The possession of property was pronounced robbery. (“Ownership class”) Chastity and natural affection were declared to be nothing more than groundless prejudices. Adultery, assassination, poisoning, and other crimes of the like infernal nature, were taught as lawful ... provided the end was good ... The good ends proposed ... were the overthrow of religion, government, and human society, civil and domestic. Hundreds of thousands of religious citizens who refused to embrace secularism were killed in a what is considered the first modern genocide. Communism in America Congressional Record–Appendix, pp. A34-A35 January 10, 1963 Current Communist Goals EXTENSION OF REMARKS OF HON. A. S. HERLONG, JR. OF FLORIDA IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES Thursday, January 10, 1963 Mr. HERLONG. Mr. Speaker, Mrs. Patricia Nordman of De Land, Fla., is an ardent and articulate opponent of communism, and until recently published the De Land Courier, which she dedicated to the purpose of alerting the public to the dangers of communism in America. At Mrs. Nordman’s request, I include in the RECORD, under unanimous consent, the following “Current Communist Goals,” which she identifies as an excerpt from “The Naked Communist,” by Cleon Skousen: CURRENT COMMUNIST GOALS (45 total…I’m hitting just a few): 3. Develop the illusion that total disarmament [by] the United States would be a demonstration of moral strength. 13. Do away with all loyalty oaths. 15. Capture one or both of the political parties in the United States. 16. Use technical decisions of the courts to weaken basic American institutions by claiming their activities violate civil rights. 17. Get control of the schools. Use them as transmission belts for socialism and current Communist propaganda. Soften the curriculum. Get control of teachers’ associations. Put the party line in textbooks. 18. Gain control of all student newspapers. 19. Use student riots to foment public protests against programs or organizations which are under Communist attack. 20. Infiltrate the press. Get control of book-review assignments, editorial writing, policymaking positions. 21. Gain control of key positions in radio, TV, and motion pictures. 22. Continue discrediting American culture by degrading all forms of artistic expression. An American Communist cell was told to “eliminate all good sculpture from parks and buildings, substitute shapeless, awkward and meaningless forms.” 24. Eliminate all laws governing obscenity by calling them “censorship” and a violation of free speech and free press. 25. Break down cultural standards of morality by promoting pornography and obscenity in books, magazines, motion pictures, radio, and TV. 26. Present homosexuality, degeneracy and promiscuity as “normal, natural, healthy.” 27. Infiltrate the churches and replace revealed religion with “social” religion. Discredit the Bible and emphasize the need for intellectual maturity which does not need a “religious crutch.” 28. Eliminate prayer or any phase of religious expression in the schools on the ground that it violates the principle of “separation of church and state.” 29. Discredit the American Constitution by calling it inadequate, old-fashioned, out of step with modern needs, a hindrance to cooperation between nations on a worldwide basis. 30. Discredit the American Founding Fathers. Present them as selfish aristocrats who had no concern for the “common man.” 31. Belittle all forms of American culture and discourage the teaching of American history on the ground that it was only a minor part of the “big picture.” 32. Support any socialist movement to give centralized control over any part of the culture–education, social agencies, welfare programs, mental health clinics, etc. 35. Discredit and eventually dismantle the FBI. 36. Infiltrate and gain control of more unions. 37. Infiltrate and gain control of big business. 38. Transfer some of the powers of arrest from the police to social agencies. Treat all behavioral problems as psychiatric disorders which no one but psychiatrists can understand [or treat]. 40. Discredit the family as an institution. Encourage promiscuity and easy divorce. 41. Emphasize the need to raise children away from the negative influence of parents. Attribute prejudices, mental blocks and retarding of children to suppressive influence of parents. 42. Create the impression that violence and insurrection are legitimate aspects of the American tradition; that students and special-interest groups should rise up and use [“]united force[“] to solve economic, political or social problems. Hitler Quote (Propaganda) 1984 (published in 1948) takes place in an imagined future, the year 1984, when much of the world has fallen victim to perpetual war, omnipresent government surveillance, historical negationism, and propaganda. Great Britain, known as Airstrip One, has become a province of a totalitarian superstate named Oceania that is ruled by the Party who employ the Thought Police to persecute individuality and independent thinking.[4] Big Brother, the leader of the Party “Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered. And the process is continuing day by day and minute by minute. History has stopped. Nothing exists except an endless present in which the Party is always right.” -George Orwell, 1984 2 Corinthians 10:4-5 For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds. 5 We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ, DARWIN – God created mankind in His image, with purpose, destiny, and able to be redeemed MARX – Economic institutions are NOT sinful, human’s are. In Christ, a human heart can be transformed…and that person can use economic systems for great good! Labor is tied to work, and Christ empowers the laborer to then be generous and willing to share COMMUNISM – Only nations “Under God” are blessed and allow humans to flourish as God intended. Freedom of conscience, religion, speech, press, and thought are rooted in individual liberty, which are given to us by God and should never be taken by totalitarian regimes!
