Rule #1 when on a missions trip, be flexible. We have only one agenda, to serve, but even that can be delayed. Or, what we plan to do to serve may not pan out and we have to look for other ways. Be flexible. Following Jesus requires flexibility; his plans aren't the same as ours, and he wants to work in and through us.
Culture Shock

When going on a missions trip it's important to know that you are entering another culture and to respect it. We don't go to bring our culture, but to bring Jesus to their culture. This requires understanding the culture that we are going into and adapting, not the message itself but how the message communicates most effectively. Same here in our community. We have to understand and appreciate that the unchurched culture is different and we have to bring understanding, not judgment to it.
