Blessed
The Empty Life
August 29, 2021 • Mark Saunders • Matthew 5:1–4
Blessings are often conferred (usually on someone’s heart, for some reason), seldom counted, but widely longed for by all. Yet one person’s blessing is another person’s curse, like walnuts in a brownie or a day at the beach. So wouldn’t it be great to have an objective, one-size-fits-all explanation of what it is to be blessed in life? Look no further than Matthew 5, where Jesus opens His teaching in the Sermon on the Mount with eight statements on what a truly blessed life entails. His list is unlike any other, and His words are as true today as when He first spoke them.
