Who determines what is considered life?

In pregnancy, is the baby considered alive at the moment of conception, or 9 months later when it enters the world? Does human life have intrinsic value? If so, when does that value begin? With so many different beliefs surrounding the sanctity of life, is there a place we can go to in order to get the answers we so desperately desire?

Does our view of life line up with a theistic worldview, and can we defend what we believe?
