June 30, 2019 • Tim Shaw

Titus 3:1-8 In this passage, Paul continues to stress to Titus that healthy doctrine leads to devotion to good works. In these verses, Paul sets his appeal in the context of the gospel. He reminds Titus that our lives used to look one way but now through the gospel we have been redeemed to look wholly different both in the Church, and in society. He concludes by appealing to Titus that the Christians in Crete will be healthy and thus constitute a healthy church if they devote time to things that are profitable while avoiding things that are worthless. 1) You live out a grace filled life by how you treat authority (1a) 2) You live out a grace filled life by how you treat others (1b-2) 3) Your desire to live out a grace filled life comes from remembering your past (3) 4) Your desire to live out a grace filled life comes from reflecting on God’s grace (4-8)

Titus 2 Main Idea: The grace of God compels all in the church to pursue godly living both for themselves and their brothers and sisters in order to glorify God and witness to the beauty of the Gospel that saved us. I. Godly living or Gospel-Centered Behavior in the Church and Home (v. 1-10) Five things to consider as we look at the list of behaviors in these 6 groups in the church: 1)The Elders of the Church are to take the lead in teaching the congregation sound doctrine that leads to godliness 2) This teaching is to be Sound Doctrine from the Word and not the culture 3) This is a picture of discipleship in the church 4) The Exhortations listed for each group are not exhaustive 5) We must understand that Grace comes before works or belief comes before behavior II. The Grace that Compels Godly Living (V. 11-14)
