Behind Enemy Lines

Victory & Defeat

April 19, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

Though we live under the sun, facing opposition from Satan from behind the veil, in the end we claim and praise a resurrected Jesus. All of our theology and practice find foundation in a victorious Christ; he is victorious over death, victorious over disobedience, and victorious over the devil. In our present darkness we can rejoice in marvelous light. Our Savior lives and reigns!

The Armor of God & The Schemes of the Devil

April 5, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

We are engaged in a very real spiritual battle, and Holy Week reminds us of this; we can either eject from the battle like Judas or engage in the battle like Jesus. In examining the vehicles, forms, content, and objectives of Satan’s schemes, we develop an even greater awareness of our enemy in this battle. However, awareness is not enough. When we avail ourselves to the armor that God provides, putting him on and living out of this shelter, only then can we withstand, fighting back with the sword of the Spirit and with proactivity in prayer.

Oppression & Possession

March 29, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

Satan has a plan to oppress everyone, and demons have a plan to possess someone. Our very real enemy is seeking to diminish our joy in God and our effectiveness for God, but what if, in some way, we are our own worst enemy? What if our unchecked behaviors and our untethered thoughts are leaving us vulnerable to the burden of heaviness and weight of oppression and attack? Listen in as we address these realities as and discover practices to implement as we seek to defend ourselves from the fiery darts of the enemy under the might shelter of Jesus Christ.

Footholds & Strongholds

March 22, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

We find ourselves surrounded completely in this season by the effects of COVID-19. While much of the focus has been on the physical realities and dangers this virus brings, there is also a very real battle raging on for each of our minds and hearts. Neglecting the person and work of Jesus during this season through passive drifting or active distraction creates space for our spiritual enemy to gain a foothold in our lives. In response and defense, we are to be sober minded, confronting these footholds as we take every thought captive in resistance, confidence, and perspective. Scripture tells us to not be surprised by the fiery trials that befall us as believers, so the question remains: who do you want to be on the other side of coronavirus?

The Spirit & The Flesh

March 15, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

Our old self has passed away in Christ, but there is still a quivering of the flesh in our life, reminding us that we are not home yet. Followers of Christ are not defined by perfect, sinless lives, but by an inner battle of the Spirit and the flesh, evidencing that the Lord is at work within us. Scripture provides us with instruction for participating in this battle as we keep in step with the Spirit of God that leads us.

The Kingdom & The World

March 8, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

What God creates in heaven, Satan counterfeits in the world. How do these worlds intersect? How do we navigate as kingdom citizens in this present darkness? The kingdom is the future, eternal, comprehensive reign of God on earth as it is in heaven, where every mind is transformed in Jesus and every desire is satisfied by Jesus. This future reality is lived out in the world with present faith by true Christians everywhere.

Heaven & Hell

March 1, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

What are you going to do with Jesus? This is the most important question you will ever answer in your entire life. Will we partake of the joy and forgiveness God offers in Christ or will we drink the cup of wrath, which we all deserve, as we deny Christ? Listen in as we examine heaven, hell, and the lion and lamb that is Jesus Christ.

Angels & Demons

February 23, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

In this week’s installment of the Dominion series, we turn our attention to angels and demons. While culture has characterized these beings in a number of different ways, scripture is clear on their origin, organization, and ordinances. Demons can burden and oppress us, but freedom is found in confession of these burdens, proclaimed truth, and worshipful deliverance as we look upwards toward God in victory.

Jesus & Satan

February 16, 2020 • Pastor Allen Coleman

Satan’s plan is to counterfeit God’s creation, set up traps for God’s people, and interfere with God’s mission. However, we see clearly in scripture that this adversary, while dangerous, is certainly limited, and in the end his dominion is short. Our great conqueror, Jesus Christ, has already struck the fatal blow to our enemy, and in time Satan’s dominion will be no more. Until then, we place our hope in Christ’s victory, finding grace to fight against exhaustion, isolation, and complacency as we grow in in adoration of Christ.

Dominion is a series focused behind the veil of the seen world. In the cosmic realm, there is a battle between good and evil occurring for claim to territories, institutions, and souls. Though Christ struck the fatal blow to Satan on the cross, our Enemy continues to lash out and cause confusion, pain, and suffering as he awaits his final death. This sermon is an introduction, a survey of spiritual warfare throughout Scripture, and a stark reminder of our own need to follow Christ wholeheartedly as we strike back against Satan’s schemes, servants, and attacks.
