2 Corinthians 5:21 highlights the fact that he who knew no sin became sin so that we might become the righteousness of God. Jesus, the perfect, flawless lamb of God is being offered up in a perfect political storm at the time of the passover prior to Jerusalem’s destruction and at the crossroads of the Roman Empire. God’s redemptive plan continues.

Whether you believed him or not, Jesus was a big deal. Israel was buzzing about his teaching, healing and Messianic claims. The world has not stopped buzzing since. The question then and the question now is what do you believe about Jesus. Was he who he said he was. Is he still seated on a throne and is the entry to heaven through Jesus? He put forward a case that it is and to this day, humanity’s wrestle is with that very question.

The story of God is coming to its climax as Jesus enters Jerusalem in preparation for his death. As Jesus enters into Jerusalem, he indicates that the narrative of redemptive history is bigger than anything anyone can do at that point (even the stones would cry out, if Herod is going to kill me, it’s going to be in Jerusalem... etc.)

9 out of 10 of the lepers that were healed didn’t grasp the nature of the healing, Jesus then teaches the Pharisees not to look for something so specific that they miss what is right in front of them. We often get so caught up in looking forward that we miss the call to live life in the Kingdom now. How can we live in the kingdom of God while still placing our hope in the future fulfillment of the kingdom?

Matt Larson teaches us through Luke 15, where Jesus tells three stories, each sharing the need for repentance. God deeply loves all of His creation, but His grace is experienced by the repentant. If we view ourselves as "unsaveable" and we choose not to repent, we miss out on the experience of God's grace. If we view ourselves as righteous by our works and we choose not to repent, we miss out on the experience of God's grace.

The Gospel is a gospel of grace, that doesn't mean that it is easy. Jesus is constantly showing us that in him, we don't need to fear this life because we are sealed in him. In light of that newfound confidence and security, we can engage the world on a mission of loving people into the kingdom. We can abandon our lives for the sake of the Gospel.
