The Poor

Episode 740

Angus Buchan

Today's message entitled 'The Poor' is actually all about priorities. By putting Jesus first, we begin to look after the poor and the needy as an overflow of our love for Him.

John 12:1-8
"Then, six days before the Passover, Jesus came to Bethany, where Lazarus was who had been dead, whom He had raised from the dead. There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him. Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.
But one of His disciples, Judas Iscariot, Simon’s son, who would betray Him, said, “Why was this fragrant oil not sold for [b]three hundred denarii and given to the poor?” This he said, not that he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief, and had the money box; and he used to take what was put in it.
But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.”

Forgive

If Jesus Christ Who died on the cross for us says that we must forgive, then surely we must forgive others. We must not have anything in our hearts that will block our relationship with God. We need to exercise grace, undeserved favour, as God has done with us.

Born again

John 3:3–4, John 3:7

John 3:3-4, 7. Unless a person is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. This means that our lives need to change based on a decision we make to believe in and follow Jesus. It is a 180 degree turn in the opposite direction from where we were going. There needs to be change.

The Time Keeper

Isaiah 38:5, Isaiah 38:8

The Lord is the ultimate Time Keeper. Isaiah 38:5, 8. God gave king Hezekiah an extra fifteen years of life. God also caused time to go backwards by ten degrees on the sun dial. He is the God of the impossible, the Miracle worker. We cannot limit God.
