The Reason

Scripture reminds us that praying for others is not just a kind gesture, it is a meaningful and powerful act of love for another person as well as an act of obedience to God. In James 5:16, we are told that “the prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.” Your prayers truly matter and can make a difference in ways we may not always see right away. When we lift others up to God, we are inviting Him to work in their lives according to His will. Jesus Himself modeled this for us. In Luke 22:32 He told Peter, “I have prayed for you, that your faith may not fail.” If Jesus saw the importance of praying for others, shouldn't we follow His example! In 1 Timothy 2:1, Paul urges believers that “petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.” This shows us that interceding for others is meant to be a regular part of our faith. We may not always know exactly what to pray, but our simple heartfelt prayers are pleasing to God and we can trust that our small act of faithfulness carries eternal significance!
