SCRIPTURE
1 Kings 17:2-3 And the word of the Lord came to him [Elijah] “Depart from here and turn eastward and hide yourself by the brook Cherith, which is east of the Jordan.”
NUGGET
God hid Moses before he led the Israelites to freedom (Hebrews 11:23). He hid David before he took his rightful throne (Psalm 32:7; I Samuel 24:1-7). And 1 Kings 17 tells us God hid Elijah at Cherith before the epic display on Mt. Carmel. Hidden didn’t mean forgotten or discarded. God gave them a place of protection and provision for a season. Hidden was a purposeful invitation for them and it is for us, too. An invitation to rest, to abide in His Word and to see Him for who He is.
ACTIVATION
If you feel like you’re in a season of hiddenness, take advantage of the invitation. Intentionally spend 15 minutes each day resting with Jesus, by remembering His goodness to you and meditating on His promises. Choose some time this week to look at how God used hiddenness in the lives of His servants and remember, it is an invitation, not a punishment.
PRAYER
Father, You are wonderful. We thank You that Your ways and understanding are so purposed and perfect. Thank You for Your love and for working out what’s best in our lives. Help us to faithfully follow where You lead and faithfully rest when You hide us. Teach us to listen and learn in the stillness, for You waste nothing. We ask it in the beautiful name of Jesus.
