Hope in Depression

SCRIPTURE
Psalm 22:1-4 VOICE My God, my God, why have You turned Your back on me? Your ears are deaf to my groans. O my God, I cry all day and You are silent; my tears in the night bring no relief.Still, You are holy; You make Your home on the praises of Israel. Our mothers and fathers trusted in You; they trusted, and You rescued them.

NUGGET
Depression is odd. It takes the things you love, and slowly sucks everybit of joy, motivation, and interest right out of them. While this experience can be different for everyone, there are moments when it feels like things will never change. This kind of pain can feel difficult to talk about…mental health is a complex and often complicated struggle. But God doesn’t shy away from the middle of our mess. All throughout the Bible, we see examples of people pouring out their prayers, pain and questions before the Lord as He patiently answers them with His unfailing love. As we do this, taking time to remember how the Lord has been faithful and how He has come through on our behalf, is a powerful way to strengthen our hope. Even when we struggle to feel anything at all.

APPLICATION
What does the middle of your mess look like right now? How can you honestly tell God what you’re feeling while also taking time to remember what He’s done for you in the past? Where can you write it down so you can see it regularly?

PRAYER
Lord thank you that I can be completely honest with You while also remembering Your faithfulness. Thank You that even when I struggle to feel anything at all, You remain the same.
