Jesus was rejected and alone on the cross

Jesus took upon himself the sins of the world. By taking our sins, he now became the object of God’s righteous wrath instead of us. The ultimate penalty for sin is separation from God, so Jesus had to enter into the hell of separation from the Father as punishment for our guilt. Rejection by the father was the manifestation of God’s hatred of sin—he cannot look upon sin, so he turn his back and forsook his Son. Jesus was rejected and alone on the cross.
