The Serious Stakes of the Upcoming Election

October 18, 2020 • Gary Dull, Dave Kistler, Jim O'Bryon

If we say someone leans to the right-politically, what do we mean? Conversely, if we say someone leans to the left-what do we mean? Most of us identify the right with Conservative Judeo-Christian values and the left as being more liberal-taking a progressive position politically. But would you be surprised to hear that the Bible has something to say about the right and the left that actually corresponds with our political parties today? It might not sound legitimate, but our guest on today’s program is going to share from his own personal Bible study on this topic, and then we’ll discuss some of the positions held by the left and the right leading up to the general election. These positions clearly define what’s at stake in this election and if you’re not sure where your party stands on the issues important to you-you’ll want to listen to this episode of Stand in the Gap Weekend! Trump, the 2020 Election, and the Changed Christian Vote

November 29, 2020 • Sam Rohrer, Gary Dull, George Barna

In a stunning election outcome, now over three weeks ago, Republicans delivered victories of every House seat up for grabs, plus maintained their majority in the Senate. Instead of a blue wave, a red tsunami took over all but the presidency at this point. While we’re still waiting for the outcome of the Whitehouse race, I’m here to encourage conservatives to continue praying and waiting on God to see what He’ll do! On today’s program, we’re going to air an interview we had with George Barna, founder of the original Barna group and current Professor at Arizona Christian University. As the Director of the Cultural Research Center there on the university campus, his group recently released a new survey we want to examine in light of the recent election. The title of the study was “President Trump Will Get Overwhelming Support from Conservative Christians in 2020 – But for Different Reasons than in 2016.” What are those “different reasons” and did they make an impact in this year’s election? That's what guest, George Barna, will be talking about on this program. Host: Sam Rohrer Co-host: Gary Dull Guest: George Barna

Living Out Your True Identity: Lessons from the Book of Daniel

November 22, 2020 • Isaac Crockett, Sam Rohrer, Joe Green, Matt Recker

**This weekend program is a rerun from Sept. 13 In an article by Samuel James titled, “Courage Takes More than a Keyboard: Christian Nerve in a Digital Age”, he writes, “It’s never been easier to fool ourselves that we are courageous when we really are not. Like the donkey who donned a lion skin to look like Aslan, or the “wizard” of Oz who was really just an old man with a machine, the image we project on our screens can be little more than self-aggrandizement. If our online audience could peek through the phone or laptop we hold, they would see the real us, and our “platform” would be laughed at rather than respected.” Perhaps you can identify with this sentiment. It’s much easier to keep people at arm’s length through a twitter or Facebook account than to do the hard work of building relationships shoulder to shoulder or heart to heart. And staying true to our faith may mean defending the truth when it’s unpopular or sharing the gospel when it’s difficult or even dangerous. This program includes some lessons from the book of Daniel, a courageous hero of the faith-who’s story is both timeless and inspiring.

Hope for America's Warriors

November 15, 2020 • Isaac Crockett, Gary Dull, Jeremy Salnecker

In 1980, the America Psychiatric Association added PTSD as a mental health disorder to its widely acclaimed diagnostic manual known as the DSM. Previous generations would’ve recognized this disorder as “shell shock” but the acknowledgement of its far-reaching effects on the brain, body, and mental faculties has only received the attention of the medical community in the last few decades. Did you know it’s estimated that 7.7 million Americans suffer from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder known as PTSD. Many of these brave men and women are veterans, first responders, sexual abuse survivors and others who’ve experienced event related trauma and stress. On this program, we talk with a military vet who experienced his own struggle with PTSD and eventually co-founded a ministry to help others like him called The Mighty Oaks Foundation. If you know someone suffering with this disorder, or would like to know how to help people who’ve survived a traumatic event in their lives, you’ll want to listen to this Stand in the Gap Weekend program!
