Proverbs 11:27 says, “Like golden apples set in silver is a word (fitly spoken) or spoken at the right time”. Perhaps you can envision a golden hued apple nestled in a bed of leaves on a silver plate or bowl. It’s as if the very best, choicest of fruits are on display for the viewing pleasure of all who pass by.

When the writer gives us this kind of description, comparing this tableau to our words being spoken in the best possible way at the most convenient time, it’s something we certainly ought to attend to.

We know words matter. They can cause tremendous pain and division. And those who’ve felt the sting of unkindness or even hateful, spiteful speech-know how long-lasting and devastating words can be.

Today we want to call our listeners to a better, higher way of communicating to those around them. Across social media, in your emails, phone calls, meetings, and conversations-the Christian ought to be, not only a vehicle for truth, but also the epitome of respectful, thoughtful, careful discourse.
