Could a Convention of States get out of control?

There are some true patriot citizens who fear that in the face of so many states who are defying common sense for instance and making themselves ‘sanctuary cities and states for illegal border crashers’ to states like NY who pass laws permitting the murder of babies at the last minute that a Convention of States if convened, could lead to even worse changes once a convention is opened up because of the participation of people who hate the constraints of the current constitution. Is this a valid concern?
