The idea of putting others first is difficult to say the least, yet it's the biblical test of true humility. The truly humble man is readily able to forgive, to be kind even when mistreated, and to extend grace in the most trying of circumstances. Yet the self-esteem movement and behavioral modification techniques popularized in the late 1960's-70's neglected this necessary character quality and traded it in for a self-centered, inward focused, pleasure seeking ideology that produced a generation of confused adults raising children who are even more confused about their self-worth, the role of authority, and the meaning to life.
