A Guide To Greatness

#5 - The Greatest Command

December 12, 2021 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Mark 12:29–31

Mark was the youngest biographer of Jesus who had a string of failures in his ministry resume. But he never quit so that by the end of his life both Peter and Paul considered him a spiritual son. That’s why his gospel is such a valuable guide as a “Beginner’s Guide to Greatness.” He embedded Jesus’ best advice on how to achieve success in life. This upcoming week's core verse is Mark 12:29-31, “Jesus answered, ‘The most important is, “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. And you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” The second is this: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” There is no other commandment greater than these.’”   This topic that we’ll discuss this week is: Obedience. The Bible has a lot to say about it! Obedience is a critical element to our walk with God. Pastor Andy will be unpacking the importance obedience plays in our faith. We’re called to live with 100% obedience to God. We can't live 90% of our lives obediently, and the other 10% disobediently. When we follow the truth found in God's word, there are blessings and rewards for living our lives according to God's plan.

This upcoming week's core verse is Mark 2:27-28,  And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”   This week we will be looking at Rest.  We will explore the Sabbath and it's importance in our life. Mark Moore states this week "It is the priority of Sabbath that makes our work so effective."

#2 - Faith

November 21, 2021 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Mark 1:15, Hebrews 11:1–3, James 2:19

This upcoming week's core verse is Mark 1:15, “The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” This question that we’ll wrestle with this week is “What is Faith?” Faith is an important component to any worldview and its especially important to Christianity. The bible talks a lot about faith and it describes it as more than just belief in your head, or feelings in your heart. Faith is action in your hands!

#1 - Gospel

November 14, 2021 • Pastor Andrew Hamilton • Mark 1:1, Romans 6:23, 1 Peter 3:15, Matthew 10:32

This upcoming week's core verse is Mark 1:1, "The beginning of the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God." Typically when we hear the word Gospel, we immediately think of it in a religious context, but in this week's lesson we'll learn that the word Gospel means "good news!" Mark was the first Christian writer to use the term, and he did it in direct opposition to the emperor's claims to be the ruler of the world.
