The question that arises is this brief letter was written to a godly mother and her children or is this “the elect lady” referring to a local church and that “her children” are the believers fellowshipping in the church. Or does this “chosen lady” would then refer to a sister church that was sending Christian greetings. While it is true that John does address a group in this letter (note the plural in 2Jn 1:6, 2Jn 1:8, 2Jn 1:10, 2Jn 1:12), it is also true that he addresses an individual (2Jn 1:1, 2Jn 1:4-5, 2Jn 1:13)

1 John 3:1 NAS95 “See how great a love the Father has bestowed on us, that we would be called children of God; and such we are. For this reason the world does not know us, because it did not know Him.” When salvation is considered, there are several things which could come to mind. Salvation could mean being saved from destruction or danger. Or, salvation could have reference to healing of the body. The greatest reference to salvation in the New Testament refers to making a person a partaker of the spiritual salvation offered by Christ. Salvation of the soul is often taken for granted. But salvation of the soul is the most important thing a person can experience. Let us take a few moments to talk about salvation of the soul.

The word “Antichrist” is mentioned in 2:18, 22; 4:3; and in 2 John 7. It occurs nowhere else in the Bible, not even in the book of Revelation. It is commonly identified - with the “man of lawlessness” of 2 Thessalonians 2 - and the beast of Revelation 13.
