Yet, Godโ€™s people continued to forget Him and be scatteredโ€”again and again, even until today. We can forget God. Thankfully, parents, mentors, and teachers have been uniquely placed to guide us and the generations after us to follow His ways and turn to Him. The older generation passes on what they know and believe to the next generation. Whether old or young, passing on what we know leads to an impartation of faith, hope, and character. Knowing God doesnโ€™t only mean facts and memorized Scriptures. It means having a true, personal, and relational knowledge of who God is. Godโ€™s desire is for each generation to tell the next about who He is, His glorious deeds, His might, and the wonders he has done. As we have experienced the goodness of God in our lives or learned lessons from Him, this should be among the first things we teach the next generation. Life is packed with moments of joy and sorrow. For those who believe in God, each of these moments, good or bad, is a chance for strengthened faith and renewed hope. When we know what God has done in the past, we will have faith that He can do it again. What are some faith-building moments you have experienced? We should not be obeying God out of fear and a โ€œgood worksโ€ mentality; we are obeying Him because He truly knows whatโ€™s best for us. He loves us and wants us to choose lifeโ€”this is why He wants us to keep walking in His ways. The generations now, realizing that the best way is to walk with God, are called to impart this truth to the future generations, so that they, too, will choose life. Have you ever tried to outsmart God or disobey His instructions? How did it feel? What is one thing that you want the next generation to believe and take with them? โ€ข When life seems to be going smoothly, it can be easy to forget God. When things are rough, we may lean on our own strength. What is one thing you can start doing to remember and acknowledge Jesus daily? โ€ข Every situation, whether good or bad, is an opportunity to strengthen your faith and renew your hope. What is a habit you can develop that will cause you to see Godโ€™s perspective in each situation? ๐—ฃ๐—ฅ๐—”๐—ฌ๐—˜๐—ฅ โ€ข Thank God that He has placed people in your life who can impart faith and hope to you. Pray that as a parent, teacher, fellow student, or in any way you interact with the next generation, God will use you for them to know Him and walk in His ways. โ€ข Pray for the faith to relinquish control of your situations to God. Believe that, as you continue obeying Him, He will fulfill His purpose for you. โ€ข Ask God for strengthened faith, even in sorrowful or difficult situations. Pray that your hope will always be in Christ and that you will share this hope with others.

Though he began as a shepherd at a young age, he became a biblical model of servant leadership, with a humble heart and noble character. This week, weโ€™ll talk about how God chose David and formed him into a servant leader. He was the youngest of eight sons in his family, and he took care of the sheep (1 Samuel 16:11). Neither the prophet Samuel nor Davidโ€™s own father expected him to be the anointed king of Israel. But God corrected them, reminding them that while โ€œman looks on the outward appearance, the LORD looks on the heartโ€ (1 Samuel 16:7). More than outward appeal and social popularity, God chose David because of his heart. How does the prophet Jeremiah describe our hearts (Jeremiah 17:9)? Even before this, David was equipped with the exact tools he would need to get where God intended. God had molded David in both skills and character. Saul, who was king at the time, unknowingly took the future king into his service because David was skilled with the lyre. Above all, David let God lead him as he led the people. The word ๐˜ถ๐˜ฑ๐˜ณ๐˜ช๐˜จ๐˜ฉ๐˜ต means pure, perfect, and innocent. This does not mean that David was perfect; in fact, he sinned more than once against God. But, he always responded in humility and had a repentant heart. Being upright meant that David led Godโ€™s people with no personal agenda. Aside from looking at and molding Davidโ€™s heart, God also blessed David with skillful hands. Our hearts must be teachable and humble as well. We should continue to let God lead us, even as we lead others. What is our role in raising servant leaders? How can we believe and invest in the next generation? ๐—”๐—ฃ๐—ฃ๐—Ÿ๐—œ๐—–๐—”๐—ง๐—œ๐—ข๐—ก โ€ข Reflect on the times you judged others based on physical attributes or appearances. Take some time this week to ask God to see people through His eyes and to approach others without bias or favoritism, as Jesus did. Consider also how you can encourage the next generation to do this. โ€ข Years alone as a shepherd helped mold David into a man of upright heart and skillful hands. How might God be molding you in this season? Starting today, how can your perspective change regarding your future? โ€ข No matter how young you are, there is a next generation to whom we can encourage servant leadership. Ask God to give you the skills and the right heart to do His will. โ€ข Acknowledge that all you have and all youโ€™ve accomplished is because of God. Thank God for all He has blessed you withโ€”tangible and intangible. โ€ข Believe that by Godโ€™s grace and strength, you can inspire the next generation toward servant leadership.
