Exodus Chapter 23 is a continuation of the laws given to Moses by the Lord. The first ones dealt with the laws of justice and mercy. The Lord commanded the people of Israel to keep from sinning by not bearing false witness in order to help a guilty person be set free. They were told not to side with the crowd in doing wrong or show favoritism in court.

In Exodus Chapter 3, we learn about an important episode in the life of Moses. While he was on a mountain, God spoke to him through a burning bush. However, even though the bush was on fire, it was not consumed. God told Moses to remove his shoes as he was standing on holy land. Moses was afraid to look at the Lord and he hid his face in his hands.
