The Forge is a ministry of Belfast Church for men. Each biweekly night takes place at the church, drawing 15-20 men from a larger group of about 30. All men are welcome. Our mission is to encourage men ‘to battle and to belong’. We 'battle’ in that we care about each other’s lives, make space to be honest about the trials and temptations, and endeavor to be available in times of need. We 'belong’ in that the Forge - and our church body at large - is a place that each man is valued and appreciated.
We have come to see that we live in a cultural moment that doesn’t understand what a man truly is. We have all been raised in a culture that values putting on a brave face, being strong and silent, never showing emotion and despising weakness. And yet we are called as disciples to become more like the manliest man ever – Jesus Christ. Despite being the epitome of masculinity, Jesus is none of the above-mentioned things. He cares deeply, he shows emotion publicly, weeps and laments and laughs. His words are never surface level, he has no fear of man and he doesn’t hide – ever. He embraced weakness and yet lived in power.
We seek to be transformed into men who live and respond and love and lead like Jesus did. Please join us.
