SIGNS: #6 BLIND WILL SEE! - John 9:1-25

“Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, and the ears of the deaf unstopped; then shall the lame man leap like a deer, and the tongue of the mute sing for joy. For waters break forth in the wilderness, and streams in the desert” Isa 35:5,6

This is a favorite story of Jesus healing the man born blind and it gives us lessons not only about faith but also about prayer, hope, and humility. We are confronted with two groups -- a man born blind who is willing to trust one he has never seen and a group of men with sight who are unwilling to trust what they can see with their own eyes. The second group is a body of men well trained and schooled in the Law and Prophets – yet were not looking for prophecy! They were abusing the Law as they accused Jesus of working on the Sabbath. The first man who was born blind did not spend the time in study or deliberation but accepted the ministry of Jesus without credentials and left his post of begging to journey to the Pool of Siloam without guarantee. He later blurts out those well know words, ‘this one thing I know – I once was blind but now I see!’. Sunday I will share this story and some of the Biblical backgrounds but in the end – we need to not trust only what we can see but put our faith the One who gives sight even to the blind! Join us this Sunday as the blind man is given sight and we will try to gain insight together!

Jesus and the Adulteress Woman - The Prodigal Daughter - John 8:1-11

She was caught in the act of adultery, dragged by force into the Temple courts, humiliated by her sin, separated from anyone who might protect her, judged and sentenced to death without trial by self-righteous religious leaders, and placed before the King of Kings who is pure and holy. This is how the apostle John describes the scene of one of the best known and emotional accounts of Scripture. This story reads like modern soap opera with immoral activities in which the rich seem to escape while the less fortunate are punished (remember she was caught in the act, but only the woman was brought to judgment – where is the guy?) The key to this incredible story is what happens when a sinner is placed at the feet of Jesus. This is the place where every person who calls themselves a follower of Christ has been and needs to go more often. It is also the only place every person can go to experience the incredible promises of forgiveness and eternal life. Join me Sunday as we stand off to the side and witness through Scripture the humiliation of the proud and the restoration of the humiliated! Only Jesus could do that! For her and for us. Pastor Mike

Jesus and Nicodemus - John 3:1-21

Dear Church Family, I am looking forward to preaching this Sunday about Jesus’s conversation with Nicodemus. I will start by pointing out the importance of the meekness and humility that brought Nicodemus to Jesus. Then we will explore the profound mystery Jesus reveals about the need to be spiritually born again before one can see and enter the Kingdom of God. Finally, you will see that being born of water and Spirit is the only thing that can deliver you from the darkness and condemnation of sin and bring you into the light and truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Although applicable to everyone, Jesus’s message to Nicodemus was also very personal, so I plan to share part of my own testimony of faith with you as well. If you know someone who needs to hear the message of the gospel, please invite them! And please pray for this week’s message. Pray that those who need to hear it will be able to, and that I will be able put my own pride aside so that the Holy Spirit has the reigns to effectively minister the words of Jesus to each listening heart.
