July 21-26, 2024 - Northern California Japanese Christian Church Federation (NCJCCF) Retreat @Zephyr Point Conference Center, Zephyr Cove, NV Guest Speaker: Rev. Michael Yoshii Theme: "Spirituality of War and Peace" Rev. Michael Yoshii is a retired clergy from the California Nevada Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. During his active ministry he was involved with social action in community issues regarding racial equity, affordable housing, renters’ rights, LGBTQ+ inclusiveness, and immigrant rights. He served on the General Board of Global Ministries from 2008-2012 and was one of the convenors of the United Methodist Kairos Response (UMKR) in 2010. Rev. Yoshii served on the International Campaign for Human Rights in the Philippines (ICHRP) Global Council. He is Co-Chair of the Friends of Wadi Foquin, an interfaith partnership with a Palestinian Muslim village in the West Bank initiated in the Cal Nevada Conference in 2009. Rev. Yoshii received his Master of Divinity in 1986 from the Pacific School of Religion. Photo above was taken at the Aswat Ensemble “Notes Against the Ban” concert in February 2018 – a musical response to the Muslim Ban as Japanese American mass incarceration during WWII was being referenced as a precedent for potential round up of Muslims in the United States.
