For over 60 years the United Women in Faith at Wesley UMC, formerly the United Methodist Women, has raised thousands of dollars for mission needs. They have sent disaster relief through UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief) and the Fire Disaster Fund of the Calif-Pacific UMC Conference, supported organizations like Gum Moon Residence/Mary Elizabeth Inn both in SF, Grateful Garments, Brighter Hope for Youth & Children, the Compassion Ministry which provides food and clothing for the unhoused at St. James Park and much more. All of these organizations have benefited immensely from the Rummage Sale.

Let us count the many other ways that our Rummage Sale has helped:

1. It brings in hundreds of our neighbors together who shop for clothes and household wares for themselves or families living in Mexico, Vietnam, or the Philippines. Many families in our community are third generation shoppers.

2. It is a green/environment event which reuses and recycles many once treasured items that would otherwise end up wasting in landfills. All unsold merchandise is given to HOPE Rehabilitation Services in San Jose which restocks their Thrift Store. HOPE operates workshops, day programs, job training, and counseling for individuals with disabilities.

3. Lastly, it brings church members together in fellowship who want to serve. We don’t know how shoppers and volunteers may be touched. Maybe, the toys, clothes, or kitchen furnishings will find a home for a new family or the unemployed. Someone may find a new hobby today and then donate it to Wesley someday.

It’s a Win-Win-Win Opportunity. Thank you in advance for all your help in this worthy cause!

Call or email the Wesley church office for any additional questions you may have. Terri K., Jeanne K., and Bev A. are the co-chairs for this year’s Rummage Sale. The office will contact one of us and one of us will email or call you back.
