Jesus stood silent before his enemies. Instead of defending himself or justifying himself, he justified us and defended us from sin, death, and the power of the devil.
He was crucified, died and was buried, and on the third day he rose again from the dead. This we confess. This we believe.
He was pierced for our transgressions, crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon him and by his wounds we are healed.
The prophecies of the messiah from the Old Testament describe the brutal suffering and torture of God's anointed to save people from their sins.
