WR21 Fast - Day 13

WEEK TWO | Jesus Says Yes Through His Works and Words.

May 10, 2024 • Joy Chickonoski • John 11

DAY 13 - Today’s devotional was written by Joy, Co-Leader of RLM, and today’s reading is: John 11. Jesus says “yes” to God and risks saying “no” to His friends.

“So then Martha, when she heard that Jesus was coming, went to meet Him, but Mary stayed in the house. Martha then said to Jesus, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died. ... Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; the one who believes in Me will live, even if he dies, and everyone who lives and believes in Me will never die. Do you believe this?" She said to Him, "Yes, Lord; I have come to believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, [and] He who comes into the world." When she had said this, she left and called Mary her sister, saying secretly, "The Teacher is here and is calling for you." ... So when Mary came [to the place] where Jesus was, she saw Him and fell at His feet, saying to Him, "Lord, if You had been here, my brother would not have died." ... Jesus wept.” [John 11:20-21, 25-28, 32, 35 NASB20]

Let’s take a closer look at the story of Lazarus being raised from the dead. Jesus deliberately did not respond to the need because the Father had something different in mind. Yet when He saw how grieved everyone was, He still wept with them. He was moved with compassion that His actions resulted in their sorrow. Even though He knew something they didn't, He still took a minute to grieve with them. He connected with them before He corrected their perspective and did something even greater than what they were asking for. I love this about Jesus! He is not quick to move us out of our pain, He is able to share in our sorrows and then He restores our joy. I don't know about you, but I am grateful most of the time when God doesn't do what I wanted. He usually shows me that what He wanted was even better. The times I must accept the mystery of faith, I am comforted by the times I could see that God knew better.

1. Are you grieving something God has said no to?

2. Allow Holy Spirit to comfort you and then restore your joy. Let Him show you His better plan.

3. How are you doing on the fast of the hectic life? Do you need to recommit to this opportunity or even establish something new with God on this journey?
