November 11, 2021 • Rebecca Ewing, Paul Watson
Believe it or not, the Christmas season is upon us! Let's get a head start on making the most of it. The holidays are a great opportunity to do good and make disciples. Listen to this episode for practical tips and steps you can start taking today to be intentional this year.
How Disciple Making Conversations Are Different (Part 1)
May 4, 2021 • Rebecca Ewing, Paul Watson
Conversations. They're part of our everyday interaction, but there’s something unique about how we handle conversations that allow movement to happen. It takes some instinct shifts to reshape the way we approach people if we want to see multiplication. Maybe there's an alternative to arguing them out of their closely held beliefs or hoping they put their faith in Christ on the spot. In this episode, we go over four of those shifts. It's about inviting them to discover God in the Bible, not inviting them to church. It's about listening to people so you don't give them a cookie-cutter pitch. It's about long-term relationships, not one-time interactions. And it's about focusing on groups rather than stopping at individuals.
Helping Christians Share the Story
September 15, 2020 • Rebecca Ewing, Paul Watson
Sharing a Bible story doesn’t come naturally for most Christians. Whether they don’t know what to say, are too afraid of what someone will think, or don’t have anyone to tell in the first place, it’s easy to leave this part out of a Discovery Bible Study or Disciple Making Community. In today’s podcast, Paul Watson and Beck Ewing talk about how to help Christians get better at telling others what they’re learning in the Bible. We’ll cover topics like the role Conversation Quadrants play and how meeting the needs of the community can provide an opportunity to share the Scripture story. The reality is that people aren’t actually going to be that off-put when you bring up spiritual things—so go for it! Part 2 (or the premium portion) is about helping Christians move from couch potato to their first disciple.
Conversation Quadrants (Part 1)
February 4, 2020 • Paul Watson, Rebecca Ewing
Are you too aggressive or too passive in your conversations about God? This episode is all about how to have conversations and interactions with lost people that lead to Discovery Bible Study and eventually them falling in love with Jesus. We need to figure out A) where our conversations are going, B) how we get there, and C) how long it will take. We've developed a tool called the conversation quadrants in which we can track the conversations we're having. This way, we can be intentional about who to keep meeting with, where to take the conversation, and how we can move towards them discovering God. In this podcast you'll find all kinds of ways you can use conversations to point people to Christ! In part 2, we discuss how long it takes for these conversation categories to progress and two very comprehendible concepts to keep in mind when balancing aggression and passivity. Being Intentional About Building Relationships with Non Believers (Part 1)
January 24, 2020 • Rebecca Ewing, Paul Watson
If you're going to make disciples, you need to build relationships with other people—specifically those who don't know Jesus. But it's hard to tell if our engagements with lost people are effective. Sometimes the gathering is all about the activity and leaves no room for conversation or true relationship building. How can we meet with the same people consistently? How can we use certain activities as springboards towards further relational development? How do the Conversation Quadrants fit in? All this and more on today's episode of the CDM Podcast! And then in part two, we will be discussing how to know when to move on from a relationship that isn't bearing fruit.
How to Have Deep Discovery Conversations
November 15, 2019 • Rebecca Ewing, Paul Watson
This free full length episode is all about having conversations that actually go somewhere. We often aren't taught how to talk to people about Jesus and if we are, it's always about getting them to accept Jesus right then and there. So where should we take the conversation? We want to connect their story to a story in the Bible. Eventually (and with lots of prayer), this will lead them to reading the Bible and discovering God for themselves. "That's what Jesus did. He saw where people were—or what was happening at the moment—and then connected a grander spiritual truth with that moment." Listen now to get practical how-to's and encouraging stories that will help you have deep discovery conversations with your friends and family!
