All retired men are welcome to join us on Zoom for Bible study, fellowship, and prayer each Tuesday morning when we will continue our study of Acts. The Apostle Peter is the author of both I and II Peter. Peter wrote his first letter about A.D. 62-64 from Rome to Christians who had been driven out of Jerusalem and scattered throughout Asia Minor. Christians were being tortured and killed for their faith. Peter knew persecution firsthand. He had been beatened and jailed, but he knew Christ, and nothing could shake his confidence in his risen Lord. So, Peter was writing to encourage these suffering, Christians. Approximately A.D. 67, three years after he had written his first letter, Peter wrote to the church at large to warn about false teachers and to extort Christians to grow in their faith and knowledge of Christ. He wrote about what was on his heart, warning believers of what would happen when he was gone. He reminded them of the unchanging truth of the gospel. He concluded his letter by explaining the words of the prophets and apostles that predicted the coming of false teachers, to give reasons for the delay in Christ’s return, to encourage them to beware of heresies, and to grow in faith. This was the last communication to the church from Peter. After which he was martyred for his faith. Jude, the half-brother of Jesus and brother of James wrote his letter approximately A.D. 65 to remind the church of the need to be vigilant, to keep strong in the faith, and to oppose heresy. Jude’s message to Christians advised that opposition would come and godless teachers would rise but believers should reject all falsehoods and immorality.
