Episode #4 Friendly Discourse (2024)
August 20, 2024
This is a Virtual Seminar hosted by Attorney/Former Judge Judith W. Hawkins and Attorney Neibra C. Williams, both Florida family law attorneys for more than 30 years. This is Part 4 of a 4-part series on their platform, "FRIENDLY DISCOURSE", addressing the subject of Healthy Relationships.
In their first episode of this series, Judith and Neibra tackled the subject "When Opposites Attractive - Is He or She Insensitive, Intentionally Offensive, or Just Clueless?" It was a conversation-starter for those struggling to maintain a healthy relationship with someone who is perceived as outwardly and intentionally offensive.
The second episode, "What's Your Love Language," stressed the importance of first, learning your individual love language(s) and, second, learning the love language of persons in your circle in order to improve those relationships.
Episode three involved a discussion of several underline principles that must be embraced in order to create heathier relationships, starting with The Golden Rule - "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
This final episode includes a discussion on the different communication styles - Direct approach, Indirect approach, Progressive approach, Story-telling, and Debate style.
Effective communication requires that the listener (spouse, significant other, child, co-worker, friend, etc.) leave the conversation feeling satisfied and at ease. If the person is left feeling disconnected, confused, or offended, then the communication was not effective. In order to have healthy relationships, you must have effective communications.
Please listen in as Judith and Neibra discuss the importance of 1) learning your individual communication style; 2) learning the communication style of your listeners; and 3) learning how to adjust your communication style to ensure against turning off your listeners.
The purpose of these seminars is to provoke thought, prayer, and meditation on specific issues faced by women with the objective of improving our relationship with God, first, and then our personal relationships.
