Following Jesus's discourse in the Sermon on the Mount in Matthew 6 on the actions of the hypocritical religious, specifically how not to pray boastfully and vainly, our Lord then gives a model that should guide our prayer life, embodied in what we know to be "The Lord's Prayer". Rather than a specific prayer that we are recite my rote memory, Jesus offers his disciples a format that should guide our prayer life. There's no more common of a spiritual practice than prayer. Virtually all religious people, and even many who claim no religious affiliation, engage in some kind of prayer activity in their lives. However, as children of God, we know prayer to be our opportunity to simply communicate with God. And by allowing us into His presence, providing right perspective, and giving access to great power, our prayer life will prove to be one of our most vital spiritual disciplines.
