Men of the promise: Talks from Genesis 25-32

 Derek Brotherson: Principal of SMBC

“As Christian men, we seek to live in pursuit of God’s promises. But depending on and trusting in unseen promises can be hard. We easily stray. Sometimes, we depend on our own strength or cunning to chase after what we want. Other times, we pursue something other than God’s promises altogether. How can we learn to live as men of the promise? There is much we can learn from Jacob’s story. Jacob inherited big promises from God, but went the wrong way about pursuing them. His flaws (trickery, self-sufficiency, and doubt, to name just a few) are ones that many men can identify with. And yet God shows great patience and grace with him, teaching him through a series of transformative experiences how to be a man who pursues the promise by faith. We will focus on three key moments in Jacob’s transformation, taking the lessons he learns and applying them to our contemporary situations. The goal is that we might all be better equipped and inspired to live as Christian men who pursue God’s promises by faith.”

This year, there will be no electives. Instead, we are excited to have Marshall Ballantine-Jones join us to encourage and challenge us about godliness in a digital age.
