In Acts, the apostles consistently proclaim the Gospel boldly and persuasively in the public square, from the Temple and synagogues to the Areopagus, demonstrating the necessity of bringing the truth of Christ to bear on the pressing questions of the age. In that same spirit, The Public Square seeks to address the most pressing ethical and philosophical issues of our day from a distinctly Christian perspective, applying Scripture and the gospel with courage, humility, and love. Its purpose is to equip believers to think Christianly, take every thought captive to Christ, and embody a faithful witness in the world.

On August 30 our topic will be: Engaging Artificial Intelligence Well and Wisely for the Good of All
Artificial Intelligence impacts almost every area of life. From the way we work and learn to the way we relate, create, make decisions, and understand what is real, it is shaping our world today and the world we are handing to our kids and grandkids. As Christians, how should we think about all this? How should we engage with AI personally, and what should we use our voice to advocate for?
We have two incredible speakers helping us engage these questions and more.
Dr. Andy Gustafson teaches a class called "Social Media, AI, and the Meaning of Life" at Creighton University where he has taught in the business school for more than 20 years. He is especially interested in the impact of AI and Social Media use on our moral formation and personal habits, as well as its impact on our family life and the social fabric of society. He is executive director of the Society for Business Ethics, Director of the Business, Faith and Common Good Institute at Creighton, and also Director of the Economy of Communion Project funded by a $1.2 million John Templeton Foundation grant. He is a popular speaker and teacher and has given hundreds of public talks and has more than 75 publications. He and his wife Celeste and 2 kids Amos and Vivian live near Creighton and attend First Covenant Church.
Dr. Luke Brad Bobo brings a unique combination of experience in engineering, technology, theology, and bioethics. After 15 years as an electrical engineer working with Department of Defense and Department of Energy companies, he went on to serve as Director and Assistant Professor of Bioethics at Kansas City University and as a leader with the Center for Bioethics and Culture in St. Louis. He is especially interested in helping Christians think discerningly about the ways technology and culture shape our lives, our ethics, and our understanding of what it means to live under the lordship of Christ. He is an author, teacher, and popular speaker who has written and spoken widely on technology, bioethics, culture, and biblical interpretation. He and his wife, Dr. Rita S. Holmes-Bobo, have two adult children, Briana and Caleb, and he enjoys reading, drinking coffee, traveling, playing golf, doing lawn work, and spending time with family and friends.
