Roughly 70% of high school students who enter college as professing Christians, will leave with little to no faith. We aim to provide an opportunity for young adults and college students to come together and grow in faith. This trip would provide opportunity for growth in faith as a group and as individuals while also serving Alaska, a community in need. The work we do in Alaska will push us out of our comfort zones by serving others in a new cultural setting. A trip such as this one would give us the chance to get out and use our hands and feet to do the work of Jesus. God calls us to serve as a way to express love for God, creation, and one another. It would also allow for us as a group to spread God’s love and word to those in a spiritually dark community.
Upon return from the trip, we don’t want the work to just end there. We envision this trip as just the beginning. We hope to bring what we learned and the growth of our faith back with us. We want to instill the works of God in our hearts and continue his works. Our goal is to continue this mission within our own communities, living out our faith in meaningful ways that reflect God’s love and compassion. Ultimately, we hope to grow in connections, deepen our faith, serve God, and bring what we have learned back into our own communities.
By serving in Alaska, our group will act as a much-needed reminder of the many ways that God acts through people to make himself known. We have previously been informed that we will be serving a “spiritually dark” place and are eager to help the community of Anchorage in any way necessary. By providing our services to the community and sharing the gospel, we plan to continue to help build a meaningful reputation for Praying Pelicans, allowing them to keep carrying out mission trips for other churches.
