98 - The Generous Gift of Nothing

Luke 21:1-4

June 21, 2026 • Pastor Ronald H. Gann • Luke 21:1–4

In Luke 21:1–4, Jesus observes wealthy worshipers contributing large sums to the temple treasury and then notices a poor widow placing in two small copper coins—an amount of seemingly little value. Yet Jesus declares that her offering surpasses all the others because, while they gave out of their abundance, she gave out of her poverty, offering all she had to live on. The passage highlights that God measures generosity not by the size of the gift but by the sacrifice, faith, and wholehearted devotion behind it, commending the widow as an example of sincere and selfless worship.
