This series is rooted in the prayer Jesus taught us in Matthew 6. When we look around at the division, the chaos, and the brokenness of our world, it’s easy to shout—“I can’t wait to get out of here.” “When is Jesus coming back?”

That longing isn’t new. It’s the same posture the disciples had the day Jesus ascended into heaven. Acts 1 tells us they stood there, eyes fixed on the sky, watching Him disappear—until suddenly two men in white interrupted their upward gaze and said:

“Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come back in the same way you have seen Him go.” (Acts 1:10–11) In other words: Don’t just stare at the sky. There’s work to be done on the ground. And if we’re honest, it’s easy to have the same posture today—eyes lifted, hands folded, feet planted, waiting for rescue—while Jesus is calling us to something radically different.

Jesus doesn’t just teach us to wait for the Kingdom. He teaches us to pray for it to come—on earth as it is in heaven. And then He invites us to participate in bringing it.

Jesus Himself is the New Creation in person. And through the Spirit, that same new-creation life now lives in all of us who are in Him.

So Church, this series is a call to shift our posture. Not just from despair to hope—but from spectators to participants. Not just praying “Thy kingdom come”—but partnering with Jesus to bring it.

Over the next several weeks, we will explore what it looks like when the Kingdom of God doesn’t stay in heaven—but comes down and takes up residence in our everyday lives, our homes, work places, community, and indeed in our world.

Because the Kingdom isn’t just something we’re waiting for. It’s something we’re invited to live into—right here, right now.
