The Disciple Who Jesus Loved

The Apostle John referred to himself as “the disciple whom Jesus loved.” He had a special and intimate relationship with Jesus. Certainly Jesus loved the other disciples and He loves you and me as well, but let’s look at several factors that led to John’s nickname and motivated him to love Jesus.

Mary of Magdala, from whom Jesus had cast seven devils, becomes the first to see Jesus after His resurrection. He called her by name, “Mary,” and tells her to go and tell the story of His resurrection from the dead. Your past may explain you, but it does not have to define you! Use your anointed story to lift up Jesus.

The Folded Napkin

When Peter and John looked into the empty tomb of Jesus, they saw the grave clothes neatly lying and the napkin for His head carefully folded. There is great significance in this seemingly small detail. Jesus in essence was showing us that He had completed this portion of our redemption, but He was not done yet. He is coming again to make all things right in this world!

Caring For The Body Of Christ

What care Joseph of Arimathaea and Nicodemus gave the body of Jesus after His death on the cross! It cost them a great sum of money, their reputation, and the convenience of time to prepare His body for burial. As we consider the body of Christ today, the church, are we making the same sacrifices to care for God’s people that we do life with?

The Jews at the time of Jesus’ crucifixion chose a guilty criminal, Barabbas, to be set free at the time of Passover instead of the sinless Son of God. Jesus, the innocent One, took the place of Barabbas, sinful murderer, insurrectionist, and robber. What a picture of Jesus taking my sin and your sin on the cross. We should have been crucified!
