8. Who is the speaker for the retreat?
The retreat speaker is Mary Katherine Hellings. Here is a little about her:
Hi to all – I’m Mary Katherine Hellings. I currently live in East Texas (in a town called Kilgore) with my husband, Ricky, and our 3-year-old daughter, Evelyn. We have another daughter, Olive, who was born March of last year. She died 2 days after she was with us and lives with Jesus now. My days are spent in three main ways: 1. Being a mom to Evelyn – going to the library, playing a lot of pretend, cooking and baking, 2. Our family loves to be with our friends and neighbors over meals, in walks around the neighborhood or in long phone calls. God has called us to be with people and love our neighbor as ourself, and 3. I enjoy teaching Bible and theology part-time at LeTourneau University. I spent my years growing up at Faith Bible Church (my family started attending when I was 4 years old) and then serving there in my 20s and 30s. I love the people at FBC and especially the women! I’m looking forward to meeting those I don’t know and being together with old friends all in the presence of God.
9. What is the theme of the retreat?
The theme of the retreat is “Restored.” Mary Katherine will be speaking on forgiveness, reconciliation, and restoration. Her central Scripture verse is Colossians 2:6-7, “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” Here is how she described the retreat:
Our retreat is all about being restored….being restored to God and to others. In our time together, we’ll look at various stories from Scripture that show us the way to live in Christ and be rooted in His love. Being rooted in God’s love allows us to keep short accounts with people even for long-sufferings. We’ll talk about how life abiding in Jesus empowers us to overflow with love and enables us to have relationships that are life-giving and God-honoring. We’ll explore ideas of forgiveness, restoration and reconciliation. And we’ll talk together about how to get rid of the noise of worry and anxiety and live out our days in the true character of the family of God – the character of love. This retreat will be a chance to restore communion with our God (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit) and live out restored communion with one another.
10. Will there be worship and singing at the retreat?
Yes! Andrea Crichton will be leading worship. Many of you know her as she used to work at Faith Bible Church. Here is a little information about Andrea:
Andrea Crichton serves as a Worship Associate with Cross City Church in Euless, TX. Her experience in various ministries throughout the years gives her an ease of connection with the people around her. She has a heart to see people meet Jesus, authentically worship at His feet, and develop an intentional relationship with Him. She is passionate about discipleship, praying together, and sharing big laughs with those around her.
