Lessons for Living in Perilous Times
November 4, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Genesis 19:23–25, Genesis 18:1–5, Psalm 15, Amos 3:7, 1 Corinthians 10:13
Abraham was an example for many of us to follow. In his time it was critical for him listening to the Father. Not only did he listen, he obeyed always with a good attitude. He hung on the promise given to him by God. As followers of Messiah, this is something we need to represent. Abraham also walks out the example of servant. After his circumcision he was still ready to serve and attend to the needs of God when He arrived. In order to be a leader you must first be a servant. God could have bypassed Abraham altogether in His mission to destroy Sodom but he felt it important to incorporate Abraham into His schedule. If we as His children serve one another and tend to the needs of others first, the Father doesn’t let our needs go unnoticed. In fact, at times that can be when He draws the closest because we are emulating the nature of Yeshua, which gives Him glory. The fact that God considered Abraham His friend compelled Him to share with Abraham his plans. The Father wants us to be on the same page with Him on His plans. Though He may not reveal everything at that moment He still prepares His people when He is about to move (Amos 3:7). God is and always shall be a merciful God. It is His will that we not only serve and listen but also that we may be victorious and prevail.
In The Footsteps of Abraham
October 28, 2023 • Bill Cloud • Hebrews 11:8–10, Genesis 14:17, Zechariah 14:2–3, Genesis 19:27–29, Genesis 12:1–6
In this weeks portion we see a new beginning - with Abraham. Through him God will begin to call forth His people that will be called Israel. Abraham’s life provides us a template of who we are regarding his seed. His journeys, his trials will reflect upon his descendants. Therefore, everything that happened to him should inspire us to have confidence in God. In his first trial he was told to leave the land of Ur. No reasoning, no time for contemplating, just to go. There will be times when the Father will ask us to do things without reasoning or contemplation. We are to act and respond, executing what we call faith. Abrahams journey demonstrates his desire to draw closer to the Creator. He “crossed over” into an unknown land trusting completely that the Father would provide everything he would ever need. God’s promises aren’t just for one person; they have long term goals and ramifications for our benefit. In striving to please the Father He exemplifies Yeshua. Even in this world of chaos it should give us all reassurance and peace that even through Abrahams trials the Father still took care of His own and preserved that which is precious to Him.
Parable of the Giant's Stronghold | Jermey Capps
August 9, 2023 • Jermey Capps • Matthew 13:11–16, Deuteronomy 2:27–29, Psalm 1, Psalm 133, Ephesians 6:12–18
When Yeshua walked the earth He spoke in parables (mashal). At times the disciples would ask, “why speak in parables?” Yeshua responded, “Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of Heaven, but to them it is not.” Messiah encouraged those who followed Him to see things with their spiritual senses. Not to merely read into things based on surface value. We as a people have to walk the path of Yeshua with “open eyes.” If we do not and aren’t careful, strongholds can find a way onto the path He’s called us to walk and can keep us from accomplishing our calling. Sihon and Og were great examples of physical strongholds for the children of Israel before entering into God’s promise. There is a spiritual principle that plays out in their story, much like we see in Yeshua’s parables. In their own power and ability, the children of Israel wouldn’t have been able to conquer the giant strongholds between them and their destiny, had not they listened to the Father. Many times if we would be patient and wait on the Father, He will renew our strength to accomplish anything that sets itself up against us in order to accomplish His will and our promise.
